CityLink is an "Open Access" network operator focused on offering high-speed fibre-optic broadband connections that deliver services from a large number of service providers. By concentrating on supplying cost-effective high-performance network connections CityLink provides a platform that offers the widest possible range of competitive services to customers. CityLink's network has the following attributes which support VoIP services;
All CityLink network services are symmetric. They are ideally suited to VOIP as they give high-bandwidth in both directions (symmetric), which is needed to support voice calls. Alternative services such as DSL are asymmetric, with very low upstream bandwidth, which severely limits the number of calls that can be carried.
Stable Performance is inherent in fibre-optic networks. Unlike copper cables, fibre optics are immune to interference from other users in the same cable, which experience interference causing DSL services to reduce in speed or restart. The high-speed optics used by CityLink gives crystal clear voice because the packets of voice are carried without excessive delays (latency) or time variations (jitter).
High-Bandwidth connections at 4, 25,100 or 1000Mbps deliver ample bandwidth for converging voice, Internet and other data requirements on to a single CityLink connection. The range of speeds offered ensure the differing connection requirements of VoIP service providers are covered allowing them to deliver the service quality their customers require.
