From today, anyone out and about along the Golden Mile can access free wifi. A Wellington City Council and Citylink initiative, free wifi is now available in outdoor areas from the Stadium to the Embassy Cinema, encompassing Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Cuba Street and Courtenay Place (see attached map).

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says this provides a great advantage for anyone living in or visiting the city.

TeamTalk has posted a strong result when it published its 2011 annual result today. The listed telecommunications company's net profit after tax was up 24.55% to $4.8 million. Revenue increased 4.8% to $32 million.

In a press release today, Mayor Celia Wade-Brown announced that Wellington will offer free wireless internet services across most of its CBD from August 2011.

The service will be available in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

“I am very pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached between CityLink Limited and the Wellington City Council to establish a free-to-use Wi-Fi Network in the main areas of the CBD,” says Mayor Wade-Brown.

“This is a significant step in our City’s evolution to a digital city”.

TeamTalk and its wholly owned subsidiary CityLink congratulate Telecom on their Ultrafast Broadband win.

"I believe that in the long run this result is in the best interest of all New Zealanders and we look forward to competing with Telecom over the coming decades in much the same way as we have over the last couple" said TeamTalk's Managing Director David Ware.

In what has been a challenging time for the telecommunications industry TeamTalk is pleased to announce a result that swims against the tide.

Revenue for the first half of the 2011 was up 2.2% on same period last year to $15.6m which along with a disciplined approach to containing costs has resulted in a first half net surplus after tax of $2.3M up 21.6%.on 2010.

TeamTalk Managing Director, David Ware today congratulated Mark Ratcliffe and Telecom on achieving prioritised bidder status in the Government's Ultrafast Broadband Initiative.

TeamTalk subsidiary CityLink remains a shortlisted bidder, behind Telecom, for the Wellington region.
